PREVIOUSLY FINISHED FURNITURE PROJECTS

FURNITURE

Making furniture is a passion for me because of the precision required to make fine pieces. I have tried different finishes but have found I like shellac the best. Its application; the abilty to get a nice shine and its easy repair.

ROCKING CHAIRS

rockingchair
I have made a number of rocking chairs. The first few rocking chairs were the classic type of chair made with white oak. The last two rocking chairs that I made were the Sam Maloof style rocking chair with one made from purple heart and one from padouk. The finish on the chairs is shellac. These type of chairs are formed and have curves which makes them flow. Each chair is unique and both of these chairs are a work of art.

JEWELRY BOX

I made two of these jewelry boxes for presents. The light curly maple wood used in these boxes off sets the wenge. These boxes were finished to a shine with shellac. The green felt was glued in. I thought about putting a music element to them but decided against this so there would be more room in the box.

BAR STOOLS

barstools
These stools were made to replace the stock bar stools we had. The cushions were a challenge since I have not done much with upholstery. The material bunched and was difficult to keep smooth. The white oak is finished with polyurethane.

ENTERTAINMENT CENTER

entertainment
This entertainment center has a cool top. This top is a two inch thick piece of bubinga which has a good amount of weight to it. The bottom carcass is plywood with ash laminated to the face front and is made of two pieces. In the back three fans are mounted to maintain the air flow. Since it is three pieces it makes easy to move. The whole piece in finished with shellac and polished to a shine.
